The Masquerade
This often-mischievous nightspot is an unholy
trinity of three clubs under one roof. There is Heaven,
Purgatory and Hell. After the club closes, a tall, black
man walks up and down inside the club. The staff finds upon
their return the next day that someone or something has
turned the heavy music amplifiers upside down.
Cold spots and horrible screams come from
the area of the back stairway. It is a favorite for Vampire
enthusiasts for they believe true vampires live on the premises.
Rumor has it that vampires run the club.
The building started out as a textile mill
whose unsafe conditions caused the death of several young
girls that worked there. Many suffered from tuberculosis
from the fumes generated by the fabrics and machinery fumes.
The building suffered several fires and some
structural collapses. One of the ghost is that of a homeless
man who died when a section of the building fell in on him.
The building is located at 695 North Ave.
NE. The building generated this experience from a former
security guard.
"...I did security work there for close
to two years and I've felt, witnessed, and heard stories
of some very strange things. The first is numerous sightings,
after hours, of a tall black man in and around the backstage,
stage, and public bathroom area's of Heaven. He walks between
the stage and public bathrooms and then walks backstage.
Even when followed back there, he disappears.
Very heavy music amplifiers turned upside
down in upper Purgatory on a nightly basis. One night, just
before lockup, a bartender was talking to his girlfriend
on a public phone in front of the very closed and locked
Purgatory doors. The power was off and the manager and I
were in the office upstairs when the bartender ran up saying
that music just came on in Purgatory. In Hell, I myself
was coming in from outside just after closing, through the
Hell side door, and I thought I saw my manager in the storage
room doorway. When I rounded one of the large wooden pillars,
no one was there and I found my manager in the office..."

17 Hundred 90 Inn and Tavern
Anna lived in the late 1700's/early 1800's, when the inn
was new and catered to sailors from the nearby port. She
was only 17 years old, but married a man who was old enough
to be her grandfather - arranged by her family, of course.
The old man owned the inn. She was basically the old man's
slave, doing all work of the inn, both inside and out while
he sat at a corner table, watching her and drinking. Some
night he would need her to help him get to his bed and on
other nights, he was just a mean drunk and beat her horribly.
With all of the strong, good- looking, young
sailors around, she of course fell in love with one. Her
husband learned of the affair and would beat her nightly
asking if the man was in the inn. One night he was exceedingly
drunk and dragged Anna to an upstairs bedroom where he beat
Anna half to death. Trying to get away from him, she backed
up to the window where she fell out of the window on to
the cobblestone street below. He claimed she jumped out
of the window and because he was so well known and rich,
no one questioned the cause
Those that owned the house, worked in the
house or were guests in the house know that Annie is still
there. Under garments are a favorite of Annie’s and
they will disappear and then reappear in the oddest places
Men will wake up to feel her caressing their
faces and open their eyes to see Anna, teary face looking
at them. Annie doesn’t like the gas-fired fireplaces
and for not explainable reason, the pilot light keeps going
out even when the maintenance man tried to light it. He
was unable to figure out why the pilot would not stay lit.
