The Barbee Hotel
Barbee Hotel was a very high-class resort
during the 1920- 1930, the Al Capone decade. The Barbee
Hotel was the nightspot for many miles around. Probably
the only place that served alcoholic beverages in about
a ten or twenty-mile radius. It was the place for parties,
drinking and carousing. Capone stayed in the hotel frequently,
often clearing out all the guests so he would have the place
to himself and his friends. He always stayed in room 301
at the back of the hotel.
He left his mark for this is the most haunted
of all the rooms. When the staff is cleaning his room, they
smell heavy cigar smoke in his room.
One of the guys came out of Chicago with somebody
else’s girlfriend. They came to the hotel but her
boyfriend came hunting for them. He found them at the hotel,
broke into their room and they were both killed. Ever since
the remodeling at the hotel, people can still hear her moaning
sometimes during the night.
The veteran bartender sees an old man in one
of the booths. When she calls someone to see him, he disappears.
Almost everyone has heard the footsteps on the stairs and
in the hall above the dining area.
Many parties when taking their picture will
line up on the stairs. When they look at the pictures, they
see orbs of light in back of the group although the person
taking the picture do not see them at the time the picture
is taken.
Many other celebrities stayed there as well.
Rita Hayworth stayed here in her room for days at a time.
When you drive by the area of the hotel she stayed in late
at night sometimes you can see a faint light.
Where the Landing is now, next to the Barbee hotel was an
old haunted house. The area was loaded with bats which may
have contributed to the stories associated with the house
being haunted.
