Charlie's Club
There is a nightclub in the western part
of Duluth called Spirit Valley. Duluth may be famous for
the Lift Bridge and the sailors but the Charlie’s
Club is the place for a spirited experience. The building
built in the late 1909 and four stories tall and reduced
to one story due to a fire in 1916. Even though no one was
hurt or killed in the blaze, the bar has paranormal activity.
The building was witness to prostitution,
a speakeasy and a gin mill to name a few of the businesses
that found shelter within its walls. The ghosts have taken
up residence in the building and make themselves known to
the patrons.
In the 1980's and 1990's, the business was The Modern. This
name stuck until 1995 when Vicki Haugland bought the establishment
and it took the name, after the former owner, Charlie Lemon.
It is uncertain when the strange occurrences began but it
is certain that many of the staff have experienced the spirit
presence at Charlie's. They even call the ghost by the name
of "Sadie" however how the name came to be is
still a mystery.
One person to experience the ghost is a DJ who was putting
up his equipment when he heard a loud noise. He went to
check the door to see who came in and found everything locked
up tight.
There was no one else in the building. A bartender
had stated that one night while working, she had caught
a glimpse of a man at the corner of the bar. When she turned
to face the gentleman, she realized there was nothing there.
Another bartender had witnessed a man sitting by the beer
taps enjoying a drink. She was startled and told her co-workers
about the man and described him to them. They told her that
saw the ghost of Boogie. He was a regular at the bar who
had just passed away a few weeks prior to the young woman's
experience. The location of the ghost was that of Boogie's
regular seat at the bar. Near the pool table thee is a corner
drink table where people are shoved, poked, brushed or to
have their pool sticks moved when there is no one else there,
at least no living person.
A woman appears only to the men especially
the men who work here. They hear doors to the bathroom open,
and then slam shut only to open again violently. The back,
heavy security door opens and shuts also. The building is
located at 5527 Grand Ave. in Duluth, MN.
