James Sheeley
House
The Italianate style, Sheeley House has been
serving customers in the Chippewa Valley in one capacity
or another since 1875. At the height of the logging era,
it was one of thirty boarding houses that furnished food
and lodging to loggers, railroaders, drifters and adventurers.
It is one of the last boarding houses still standing in
Chippewa Falls and how used as a saloon/restaurant.
Staff members and patrons come to the Sheeley
House in hopes of hearing or seeing something paranormal.
Nearby ghost investigators have spent the night here and
deemed the place, “haunted”. Employees say they
hear footsteps walking up and down the stairs at night when
they close up. An employee once went up to the attic where
the freezer is to get some wine. The freezer door closed
behind him, then locked itself and turned the lights off.
It took him one-half-hour to pick the lock open.
The James Sheeley House Restaurant and Saloon
is located on the Chippewa River near downtown Chippewa
Falls. The James Sheeley House underwent extensive renovation
in the 1980's with considerable care and research applied
to insure the building retained its original character.
It now operates as a fine dining restaurant with a casual
dining saloon. The James Sheeley House is located at 236
West River Street, Chippewa Falls WI.
