Wyoming State Penitentiary
This harsh looking stone building is only
a reflection of the harshness that existed on the inside.
The country was wild and so were the outlaws and the young
state was determined to tame the wildness that ruled in
the early days.
The country was rough and death came calling
to those young and innocent as well as those whose ouls
were black with crime and violence. Declared, “legally”
haunted, ghost walk among the many visitors, beckoned by
the foreboding look of the prison.
The prison, on Interstate 80, held prisoners
from 1901 through 1981. When the prison closed, Hollywood
moved in and made a feature film called “Prison”.
Stories about cold spots, strange voices, nudging and feelings
of being watched become part of the actors and moviemaker’s
everyday conversation.
Once a year, in the month of July, the prison invite investigators
to come for an overnight “lockdown” where they
spend the night in the haunted prison. Here they have a
chance, first hand, to meet its ghosts.
